West Maui hotels donate to Lahaina tribute quilt, honor first responders, reflect on one year since wildfires
In honor of the Maui wildfire remembrance of Aug. 8, The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas installed a Kapa Kuiki Quilt, in their hotel lobby. The 16 panels that make up the quilt, tell stories of the history of Lahaina in a design by artists of ʻohana o Pūnana Leo o Maui. The Westin Nanea obtained the Lahaina tribute quilt in an auction at the most recent Ho‘omau event and installed the piece of symbolism for public display on the one-year anniversary of the Maui wildfires.
Holoholo Kaʻa 2023: Get up close to vehicles at “Touch A Truck” event
Holoholo Kaʻa 2023, also known as the “Touch A Truck” event, will take place on Nov. 5, providing an opportunity for people of all ages to interact with emergency vehicles, heavy machinery, construction rigs, farm equipment and more.
Founder describes early days of Hawaiian language immersion program, challenges
In 1986, Kīʻope Raymond was asked to join the board of the ʻAha Pūnana Leo to found the first private, nonprofit pre-school in Hawaiian language on Maui. There are now three ‘Aha Pūnana Leo schools on Maui and pathways enabling Hawaiian immersion language students to receive instruction and graduate from Lahainaluna, Hāna, and King Kekaulike high schools. Hoʻomau 2022 event returns with live benefit concert, March 26
Ho‘omau 2022, a benefit concert to support Hawaiian language immersion preschool students at Pūnana Leo o Maui in Wailuku, will be held at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens in Kahului from 9 a.m. to sunset on Saturday, March 26.
Pūnana Leo Preschool Remains COVID-19 Free, Open Enrollment Underway
Pūnana Leo o Maui is able to accommodate up to 30 students for the upcoming 2021-22 school year, which will start on Aug. 2, 2021 and run through June 17, 2022.
33rd Annual Ho‘omau for 2020 Canceled
The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 28, and was tentatively postponed to June pending community impacts of the ongoing COVID-19; however with ongoing concerns, organizers decided to cancel the event.

The event will be held on Friday along the historic Market Street from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The street will be closed beginning at 5:30 p.m.
