Draft short-term vacation rental policy heats up debate of South Maui Community Plan update
Maui Planning Commission members will take up the draft South Maui Community Plan update on Tuesday, and it comes with a very hot potato — a policy statement to increase residential housing by phasing-out short-term vacation rentals.
First South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee meeting announced
The South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee will hold its first meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Lokelani Intermediate School cafeteria at 1401 Līloa Drive, Kīhei. The event kicks off the next phase of the South Maui Community Plan update.

The South Maui community plan area includes Ma‘alaea, Pulehunui, Kīhei, Wailea, Makena and ‘Ahihi-Kina‘u, and Paltin said all residents in the South Maui community plan area are encouraged to apply.

Discussion begins on South Maui CPAC selection and application process
The County Charter and Chapter 2.80B, Maui County Code, direct the appointment of the CPAC for each community plan area. Committee members are appointed to provide resident input in the planning process. CPAC members provide guidance on local issues that influence the physical, social, and economic development of their community and are charged with reviewing and recommending revisions to update the Community Plan.
