#State of the State Address

Gov. Josh Green today announced a new policy report titled “A Vision for Hawaiʻi’s Future,” outlining the Green administration’s long-term strategy to tackle significant issues facing the state of Hawai‘i. The report builds upon priorities discussed during his 2026 State of the State Address to the Legislature.

Gov. Josh Green pledged to extend rent support for Maui wildfire survivors through February 2027 and proposed halting future state tax cuts to preserve social services during his State of the State address, Monday in the House Chambers at the State Capitol.

Gov. Josh Green, MD, launched a new policy report titled “Results for our People,” which outlines the Green administration’s plans to tackle significant issues facing the state of Hawai‘i. The report builds upon priorities discussed during his 2025 State of the State Address to the Legislature.

A bill introduced by 13 representatives in the state House calls for establishing a permanent “Return-to-Home program” with an as yet undetermined amount of funding to return homeless people in Hawaiʻi to their home states.

Governor Josh Green, M.D. highlighted progress made in the first six months of his administration in the areas of affordable housing, homelessness, the high cost of living, healthcare, education and the environment.

In his address, Gov. Ige announced that given recent revenue projections, he is asking the Hawaiʻi State Legislature to return some of those dollars to taxpayers. “We want to issue refund checks of $100 for every taxpayer and for each of their dependents. For a family of four, that would mean an extra $400. In this way, we’ll also inject $110 million back into our economy,” said Gov. Ige.

Gov. Ige said, “Today, at the start of a new decade, we have it within our power to change the lives of our working families. We have it within our power to change the trajectory of Hawaiʻi’s future. That is the underlying belief of this joint package by the House, the Senate, my administration, and the community.”
