The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Wailuku has been named the champion of this year’s Adopt-A-Highway Dash for Trash, an annual public service competition sponsored by the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District.

A new mural on the Kūihelani Highway sound wall in Puʻunēnē was created by two Maui artists in collaboration with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District. Titled “Moʻolelo O Maui,” the 60’ wide x 9’ high artwork depicts the beloved story of Maui the demigod harnessing the sun.

The Heart of Aloha Church and Tenrikyo Molokaʻi received the Adopt-A-Highway Nō Ka ʻOi Highway Hui Award for the fourth quarter of 2024 and first quarter of 2025, respectively. Both churches and their volunteers have regularly picked up trash along a two-mile segment of highway for the past eight or more years, helping to prevent roadside rubbish from blowing into the ocean or other sensitive ecosystems.

The Maui Preparatory Academy Rotary Interact Club has received the No Ka ʻOi Highway Hui Award from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District, for the club’s student-led contributions to the Adopt-A-Highway public service program on Maui.

A hui of three Marriott properties in Wailea has received the No Ka ʻOi Highway Hui Adopt-A-Highway Award from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District, in recognition of their collaborative community care efforts.

Hands-on STEM education modules for students in grades K through 12 are available to Maui schools for free through a partnership between the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District and the American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials.

At the Maui Ocean Center on March 18 and July 15, kids can learn about how stormwater affects the ocean during educational activities run by the state program, Stormwater Maui.

The Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association’s Molokaʻi Chapter received the Adopt-A-Highway No Ka Oi Highway Hui Award from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation Highways Division – Maui District (HWY-M). The chapter is the first from Molokaʻi to receive the award.

Kamehameha Schools Maui has been awarded the No Ka Oi Highway Hui Award for its active volunteerism in the Adopt-A-Highway program run by the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.

The Department of Transportation’s Highways Division selected the Notestone Crew to receive the No Ka Oi Highway Hui Awards. The quarterly recognition honors Adopt-A-Highway participants that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the anti-litter public service program.
