Maui community rallies for emergency dune restoration at Baldwin Beach

Over the summer, the ocean claimed a popular pavilion at Baldwin Beach. A group of volunteers led by the Sea Grant and Surfrider Foundation have begun restoration efforts at the former site to re-naturalize the shoreline and establish sand dunes.

New tuition-free limu culture track breeds experts in Hawaiian algae

A new specialized course track at Windward Community College is combining traditional Native Hawaiian knowledge of algae (limu) with Western scientific methods to explore key questions about limu and Hawaiian fishponds, announced the college on June 17.

Molokaʻi feedback sought at meeting for creation of wetlands map, July 6

Molokaʻi residents are asked to weigh in on the creation of a Maui County wetlands map during a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Mitchell Pauole Community Center conference room in Kaunakakai.

Waikīkī Beach Undergoes Sand Replenishment for Second Time in a Decade

This is the second time in a decade Waikīkī has had a sand replenishment project and Lemmo thinks, due to sea level rise, this will be necessary over the course of the next few decades, every 5-10 years.
