Limited spots available for Kiwanis Kūpuna Spelling Bee preliminary competition on Maui
Kiwanis Division 22 Lieutenant Governor Kelsey Okuda announced that there are only five more slots available for Hawai’i residents, 60 years or older, to compete in the upcoming Kiwanis Kūpuna Spelling Bee Preliminary Competition on Maui on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission Social Hall located at 1828 E. Vineyard St. in Wailuku.

2025 Maui Bon Dance Schedule: honoring ancestors, celebrating community
The spirit of summer returns to Maui with the 2025 Bon Dance season, a cherished cultural tradition that blends Buddhist reflection with joyful community celebration. Beginning in early June and running through mid-August, temples across the island will once again open their grounds to the public for evenings of dancing, music, food and remembrance.
Japanese calligraphy workshop set for Dec. 1 at Kahului Jodo Mission
Monk Sen of Rinzai Zen Mission in Paia will lead Japanese calligraphy workshops in two sessions Dec. 1 at the Kahului Jodo Mission. The first will be from 10 a.m. to noon; the second from 1 to 3 p.m.
