Update/power restored: Outage knocks out power to 3,824 customers on Maui

Around 11 a.m. today, approximately 3,800 customers in parts of Waikapu and Wailuku experienced an outage when tree trimmers accidentally dropped a branch on the lines. Around this time, there also was a pocket outage in Wailuku that impacted some County facilities and businesses on High Street, Wells Street, and Main Street. This outage was a suspected underground cable fault.

Power knocked out for 2,000 customers in Wailuku

An estimated 2,000 customers are without power this morning in Wailuku. The outage was first reported at around 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022. Crews from Hawaiian Electric are investigating the cause.

Maui Electric Emergency Repairs at ʻĪao Valley Road This Evening

Maui Electric will do emergency repairs that will require a road closure tonight, from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., at the cross-section of ʻĪao Valley and Alu roads.

UPDATE: Coconut Tree Downs Wailuku Lines, Power Restored

MECO officials say a downed power line is to blame for an outage affecting customers in Wailuku. A fallen coconut tree brought down the lines that resulted in the outage.

Waiehu Outage Likely Caused by Accumulated Moisture

Power outages reported in Wailuku and Waiehu last night were likely caused by an accumulation of moisture on electrical equipment.
