Wildfire-destroyed Kaiāulu o Kupuohi affordable housing reopens, fully occupied
Hunt Capital Partners celebrated the reopening of Kaiāulu o Kupuohi, an 89-unit affordable housing community in Lahaina that was destroyed in the August 2023 Maui wildfires.
FEMA considers placing manufactured temporary housing units on privately owned vacant lots
To further expand housing options in West Maui for wildfire survivors, FEMA is working with Maui County and Lahaina property owners to place Alternative Transportable Temporary Housing Units on secondary private properties. These properties will house individuals and families who were displaced by the August 2023 wildfires. The property must allow for the placement of two or more temporary units. Properties must be within the West Maui area.
Kaiāulu o Kūkuʻia affordable housing waitlist opening; lottery planned
A waiting list opens next month for the Kaiāulu o Kūku′ia affordable apartment project located on Keawe St. in West Maui. The project will begin accepting applications at 9 a.m. on June 24; and a lottery will be held on Aug. 20 to determine the order in which applicants are processed for eligibility.
Maui Council panel advances bill to expedite rebuilding of wildfire survivors’ properties
Six months after the Aug. 8 Maui wildfire disaster, the Maui County Council’s Water and Infrastructure Committee recommended passage of a bill to lower permitting hurdles and allow fire survivors to rebuild sooner rather than later.
$15M released for a new dedicated teacher affordable housing project on Maui
The funding will finance the design and construction of teacher housing in the Lahainaluna Complex Area.
