Concrete barriers ‘floating’ on eroding Honoapiʻilani Highway spur emergency designation; state moves to prevent cutoff
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation has officially designated a section of Honoapiʻilani Highway near Mile Post 14 a traffic emergency zone, citing serious erosion beneath the road that threatens to cut off access to West Maui.
Traffic advisory: Oil spill on roadway results in bottleneck
Motorists are advised of traffic into and out of Lahaina as crews continue cleanup efforts following an oil spill reported before noon near the Keawe Street / Honoapi’ilani Highway intersection. Motorists report continued traffic delays in the area.
Nighttime lane closure continues on Keawe Street
The northbound lane on Keawe Street between the Lahaina Bypass and Kupuohi Street will be closed at 9 p.m. each night, beginning Monday, June 3, to 5:30 a.m. the next day, with the work ending Friday morning, June 7. Traffic in both directions will be maintained through alternating lane control (contraflow) in the remaining lane. There will be signs and personnel to direct motorists at both ends of the work area.
McKelvey announces modifications to ease West Maui project traffic
Hawaiʻi State Representative Angus McKelvey (District 10 – West Maui), announced today that thanks to the help of the Department of Transportation and contractor PB Sullivan, changes to traffic flow would be coming for the West Maui Hospital sewer work for the remainder of the project.
West Maui Traffic Signal Improvements Begin Tuesday, Sept. 29-30
Intermittent delays for traffic signal improvements are possible at intersections in West Maui between 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, and 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. During the installation, HDOT crews will deactivate the traffic signals and intermittently stop traffic through the intersection for five minutes at a time.
