Enhanced Trade Showers Expected Today

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the Pailolo and ʻAlenuihāhā channels as well as Māʻalaea Bay through 6:00 p.m. Thursday. East winds around 25 knots and rough seas up to 12 feet are forecasted. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Today
Mostly cloudy skies are expected today with showers likely in windward and mauka areas with some clearing expected by the afternoon. Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast for leeward areas across Maui County with the possibility of scattered showers. Trade winds are expected from 15 to 20 mph with high temperatures from 79° to 84° near shore and lower high temperatures at higher elevations.

Gradual clearing for windward areas is expected to continue with partly to mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers. Partly cloudy skies are expected for leeward areas. Trade winds are expected from 15 to 20 mph with low temperatures from 68° to 73°.
Looking Ahead
A trade wind weather pattern is expected to continue into next weekend. Increased showers are forecasted to move over the islands into Tuesday. These showers will favor windward and mountain areas, but a few will spread leeward. After the shower band passes by late Tuesday, a typical trade wind pattern is expected, with brief windward showers favoring nights and mornings.
