Drain line replacement work to begin on Honoapiʻilani Highway

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is advising highway users that work will begin next week to replace a drain line underneath Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30).   

Tuesday night closures on Honoapiʻilani Highway for rock scaling and removal

Crews will be removing a boulder caught in the protective netting and also performing rock scaling and other rock removal work from 9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20 to 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21. The work will be between mileposts 10.45 to 10.55 on the Lahaina side of the Olowalu Tunnel, also known as the “Pali Tunnel.” The road will be intermittently closed in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

MEMA completes wildfire risk reduction project in Ukumehame

The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has completed its Ukumehame Mile Marker 13.5 Wildfire Risk Reduction Project to remove hazardous wildfire fuel on approximately 42 acres of County of Maui property off Honoapiʻilani Highway that experienced a dozen fires in the last two years, per an announcement Wednesday.

Wailuku teen suffers critical, life-threatening injuries in West Maui crash

The involvement of alcohol is considered a factor in a rollover crash that resulted in the hospitalization of an 18-year-old driver from Wailuku. The teen was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical, life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. The front passenger, an 18-year-old Wailuku male, and the rear passenger, an 18-year-old Waiheʻe male, both sustained minor injuries and were transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
