Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey A. Murray retires on June 30th, 2018, after 10 years at the helm of the department. 

Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray received a positive review in the annual evaluation compiled by the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety Commission.

The annual performance evaluation of Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray for the 2016 calendar year was “very favorable.”

“We are so fortunate to have the best Fire Chief in the state, and his positive attitude drifts down to the whole department,” said William “Butch” Soares, outgoing Chair of the Fire & Public Safety Commission.

The Maui County Fire and Public Safety Commission gave Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray a positive review as part of an annual evaluation for the 2014 calendar year.

“Chief Murray has performed exceptionally well in relation to the Commission’s expectations,” the announcement said of Chief Murray, who was named to the post six years ago.

“Kitchen fires are still the number one reason for residential fires nationwide,” said Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray.

Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray today announced the promotion of six members to the rank of Fire Fighter III. The promotions include Spencer Rodrigues, Jason Gamiao, Ryan Otsubo, Nathan Nishiki, Matthew Mann, and Timmothy Herrick.

The promotions are for Fire Fighter IIIs Bram Denhaan, Geoffrey Bogar, Lee Theros, and Shawn Rogers. Promotions for all four individuals goes into effect on Nov. 1, 2012.

The Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety will begin installing smoke alarms at high risk homes in October, under the federally funded Smoke Alarm Maui Program.

The Kahuola Award, literally translated as Guardian of Life, recognizes those who go beyond the call of duty by performing a selfless life saving act.
