Weather impacts from kona storm persist with rain, strong winds in the forecast
The County of Maui’s Kepaniwai Park and the State of Hawaiʻi’s ʻĪao Valley State Monument are closed due to the severe weather forecast. Signs are posted below Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens, blocking access for entry.
Severe weather on Maui results in park, road closures
The Department of Public Works said Okolani Drive and South Kīhei Road from Wailea Alanui Drive to Kilohana in South Maui remain closed as of noon today due to storm impacts. Also, trees are blocking both lanes on Naʻalae and Waipoli roads Upcountry, and crews are working to clear the roads. Parks facilities that closed include: Central Maui Regional Sports Complex; Coach Spencer Shiraishi Memorial Pool; Keawakapu Beach parking lot; Kīhei Aquatic Center; and Kīhei Community Center.
Polipoli, Kula Forest Reserve to Close Sept. 12-23
The Kula Forest Reserve, Walpoli Access Road, Kahananui Forest Reserve, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area will close from Sept. 12-23, 2016.
Hui Aloha Playground Renovations Prompt Partial Closure
The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the Hui Aloha Playground at Keōpūolani Park will be partially closed for renovation work April 27-29, 2016.
“Meet-and-Greet” with Kanahā Park Rangers on Monday
The public is invited to learn about the focus and priorities for the park. A separate visioning workshop will allow the public to share ideas and feedback for consideration in the development of a proposed Master Plan.

Haleakala Backcountry Now OPEN; ʻOheʻo Stream Remains CLOSED
The backcountry area of Haleakalā National Park has re-opened for hiking, camping, and cabin use as of Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2015. The area was closed on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 due to potential impacts associated with Hurricane Ignacio.
Kanahā Park Campgrounds to Close for Repairs, Cleaning
The Maui Department of Parks and Recreation’s Central Maui District will be closing the 12 campground areas at Kanahā Beach Park in Central Maui for cleaning and repairs starting on Monday, June 8, 2014. County officials say they anticipate reopening the area on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
Kalama Skate Park and Kokua Pool Closures Announced
The Kalama Skate Park closure is to facilitate repairs to vertical ramps, safety railings and support structures.
Haleakalā, ʻĪao, Mākena, Waiʻānapanapa Reopen after Flossie
All areas that were closed are now reopened to normal operating hours. Today, authorities said Waiʻānapanapa State Park and Polipoli State Park are also open.

News Brief: Kalama Skate Park Closed for Renovations
The County of Maui announced today that the Kalama Park Skateboard Park in Kihei will be closed for renovations from August 31 to September 1, 2011. The Skateboard Park will reopen on Friday, September 2. They Parks and Recreation Department apologized for the inconvenience.
