#sewage spill

The spill occurred near the intersection of South Kīhei Road and Waimāhaʻihaʻi Street at around 2:05 a.m. Wastewater flowed from the pump station site to the grassy area in the adjacent lot occupied by the Kīhei Fire Station.

County officials say the “tests results indicate that no wastewater reached the ocean as a result of the May 7, 2013 overflow.”

A 278 gallon wastewater overflow was reoprted in Kihei on Kenolio Road on Saturday, May 4, 2013, county officials said.

Officials say the overflow was caused by blockage from 6 inch rocks in a mainline.

The tsunami warning event on Saturday resulted in sewage spills to the ocean at three locations. Officials with the County of Maui identified the specific areas where the public should avoid the ocean until results of bacteriological tests are complete.
