Hāna Highway $7.7M emergency rockfall mitigation work completed
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced the completion of its $7.7 million emergency rockfall mitigation work at mile markers 9.7 to 9.9 on Hāna Highway (Route 360) near Waikamoi Stream.
UPDATE: Body of One Victim Recovered, East Maui Search Terminated for Second Missing Hiker
Maui fire crews recovered the body of a visitor reported missing on Saturday evening. The man was found at around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, about 50 yards offshore where Waikamoi Stream enters the ocean. The search for a second missing hiker continues today.
Waikamoi Flume Replacement Project Proposed
Continuous weathering over the years has resulted in leakage along the entire length of the flume, and DWS personnel say the bridges have become dangerous for maintenance personnel to traverse.
