Alerts
A High Surf Advisory is in effect through 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Along east facing shores we expect surf to build Monday into Tuesday. Surf heights of 8 to 12 foot faces are expected Monday and 10 to 14 feet through Tuesday. This advisory may need to be upgraded to a warning depending on conditions. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
A Hydrologic Outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service. The latest forecast for Hurricane Guillermo takes the system over the island chain as a tropical storm. While Guillermo is expected to be moving steadily west-northwest as it passes across the island chain, abundant moisture drawn into the circulation will bring the potential for very heavy rainfall and flash flooding on Wednesday and Thursday. The details on the timing, location and amount of rainfall remain uncertain and are highly dependent on the eventual track of Guillermo.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all Maui County channels as well as Māʻalaea Bay through 6:00 a.m. Monday. East winds up to 25 knots and rough seas to 11 feet are expected. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.
