High Surf Warning: North  and west shores of Molokai and north shores of Maui through 6 p.m. Thursday.

Small Craft Advisory: All island waters through 6 p.m. Thursday.

Special Weather Statement: Very windy conditions are expected this weekend. These winds will be especially gusty at higher elevations and through mountain gaps and downsloping areas. If you have outdoor activities planned, you may want to postpone them or reconsider your plans.

    Looking Ahead

    Moderate to breezy trade winds are expected through Thursday with winds becoming light and variable Thursday night and Friday as a front approaches. The front will pass over the islands this weekend and stalling out near the Big Island early next week bringing an increase in showers across the state. Very strong trade winds are expected this weekend, before easing early next week.



    Partly sunny skies with isolated windward and mauka showers and sunny skies for the leeward sides. High temperatures from 79° to 84°. East winds around 10 to 15 mph with local afternoon sea breezes in leeward spots.

    Malika was born and raised in Hilo. She began her career in news at KGMB9 in 2007. As a part of the Hawaii News Now weather team, Malika was nominated for two Emmy Awards for excellence in weather reporting and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Journalism Award for her reporting on Hawaii’s tsunami damage in 2011. In 2019, Malika was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii Chapter in the category of Science Reporting for her Big Island Now news report on what was happening beneath the sea surface at the ocean entry of the Puna lava flow.
