Colorado Woman With COVID-19 Tests Positive 19 Days After Lengthy Hawai‘i Trip

A 50-year-old Colorado woman who was in Hawaiʻi for a two week trip, says she has since tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. It is important to note that it is unclear where the woman contracted the virus and there are others in her area of Colorado that have tested positive–none of them to date are personal contacts of hers, to her knowledge. This particular test was taken 19 days after leaving the islands, but symptoms were present in the weeks before being tested.

County to Offer Permit Refunds For Community Center Events

Closures of community centers begins Monday, for 30 days, and could be extended if necessary.

Kahului Saturday Swap Meet Canceled Beginning March 21

As a precaution to prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus, the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is temporarily canceling all events held on its campus.

Couple With COVID-19 on Kaua‘i had Traveled to Maui, Maui Mayor Issues Statement

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino released a statement regarding the two presumptive positive COVID-19 cases on Kauaʻi. The couple who tested positive had become symptomatic while on Maui and had sought urgent care while here.

The White House today announced the the United States will be suspending all travel from the UK and Ireland effective at midnight ET on Monday night.  Legal US residents will be able to return home.

Mayor Victorino to to Provide COVID-19 Updates on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i

The Molokaʻi meeting will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 4 p.m. at the Mitchell Pauole Community Center. The Lānaʻi meeting will be on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at 4 p.m. at the Lānaʻi Community Center.

Daryl Hall and John Oates Hawai‘i Concerts Rescheduled

Daryl Hall & John Oates are rescheduling their shows in Honolulu and Kahului, Maui. The Maui show at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center has been rescheduled (from Sunday, March 29) to Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020. The Honolulu show at the Blaisdell Arena will be rescheduled to Friday, Oct. 23, 2020.

Public Special Use Permit Events at State Capitol Suspended

The state Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) is suspending all public special use permit events at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol, Washington Place, and other facilities it manages beginning Monday, March 16. The Hawaiʻi State Art Museum will also be closed until further notice.

Hawai‘i’s Initial Batch of Surveillance Testing Comes Back Negative for COVID-19

As announced earlier this week the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health launched a statewide surveillance testing program to identify cases and community spread of the coronavirus. Testing on the first batch of samples was completed today and of the 31 random samples completed, all 31 were negative for COVID-19, according to officials with the DOH. 

Maui FCU Annual Luncheon Cancelled to Help Prevent Coronavirus Spread

Maui Federal Credit Union officials today announced the cancellation of its annual membership luncheon scheduled for Sunday, March 29 at the Maui Beach Hotel Ballroom. The business meeting portion will still take place at the hotel, but there will be no food, refreshments, door prizes, and distribution of gifts.

March 19 Economic Summit Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Wailea Realty Corp. + Windermere Real Estate will cancel its annual Economic Summit that was scheduled for Thursday, March 19, at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the company decided to cancel the event until further notice.

Maui County Public Facilities to Close for Next 30 Days

Mayor Michael Victorino announced that County of Maui fields, pools, gyms and other facilities, including public restrooms, will be closed for the next 30 days starting Saturday, March 14, 2020, due to increased precautions regarding COVID-19. County community centers will close starting Monday, March 16, 2020.

Hale Makua Health Services announced today that it will be limited visitors starting Monday, March 16, 2020 to both Hale Makua Kahului (472 Kaulana Street) and Hale Makua Wailuku (1540 Lower Main Street).
