Aug. 6, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 628 Cases, Second Highest Day on Record
There were 628 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Friday, the second highest day on record in the state since the pandemic began.
Three Local Banks Require COVID-19 Vaccinations for Employees
Three Hawaiʻi banks–Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank and Territorial Savings Bank–announced today that effective Sept. 30, they will require employees to show proof of full vaccination or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. The announcement points to an “alarming increase in COVID-19 cases” in the state of Hawaiʻi.
Hawai‘i State & County Employees Must Provide Proof of Vaccination, or Undergo Regular COVID-19 Testing
Governor David Ige today issued a 22nd emergency proclamation related to COVID-19 in Hawaiʻi that effectively requires all state and county employees to provide their vaccination status to their department, office or agency. If they cannot provide proof of vaccination by Aug. 16, they will be subject to regular COVID-19 testing.
Aug. 5, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 655 Cases, Highest Single Day on Record
The state Department of Health reports that there were 655 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Thursday, the single highest day on record in the state since the pandemic began. The confirmed cases included: 422 on O‘ahu (+6 probable); 121 on Hawai‘i Island (+10 probable); 52 on Maui (+17 probable); seven on Kaua‘i; and 20 in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state.
Lt. Gov.: 655 Cases, 6.86% Positivity Rate, 166 Hospitalized in Hawaiʻi on Aug. 5
Lieutenant Governor Josh Green announced today’s COVID-19 case counts, ahead of the daily noon announcement traditionally issued by the state Department of Health, saying 655 new cases were recorded in Hawaiʻi today.

Maui Mayor Requests Postponement of Return to School Amid Delta Variant Surge
In light of new CDC data showing the Delta variant can spread as easily as Chickenpox, Maui Mayor Michael Victorino is asking the Hawaiʻi Department of Education, Department of Health and the Ige Administration to postpone the return of classroom learning until the impacts of the current COVID surge on Maui County’s healthcare facilities can be assessed.

July 31, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 485 Additional Cases in Hawai‘i Today
The state Department of Health reports that there were 485 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Saturday. Today’s total is the largest single day total for Hawaiʻi since the pandemic began. Yesterday’s 622 cases was higher, but accounted for an interruption in electronic lab reporting from earlier in the week.

Retrieval of these reports is anticipated to occur in the next 1-2 days.
