March 17, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 69 Cases (38 O‘ahu, 23 Maui, 4 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Lānaʻi; 3 Out-of-State)

The state Department of Health reports that there were 69 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 38 on O‘ahu, 23 on Maui, one on Lānaʻi, four on Hawai‘i Island, and three in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed out of state. There were a total of 753 cases logged over the past two weeks, 252 of them in Maui County.

There are three honorees from Maui: Cristina and Devin Pagaduan, owners of Pastele House Maui; Maui Family Support Services, Inc. Early Head Start; and Debbi Amaral, Director of Maui Economic Opportunity Head Start.

At 7:29 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over north and east slopes of Maui. “A band of showers will continue to produce moderate to heavy showers over the islands for the next few hours. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour,” according to the NWS forecast.

Hawai‘i National Guard to Deploy 80 Members to Washington D.C.

The Hawaiʻi National Guard is set to deploy about 80 of its members to Washington, D.C. to support US Capitol Police until early May.

The state Department of Health reports that there were 48 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Tuesday, including 30 on O‘ahu, seven on Maui, eight on Hawai‘i Island, one on Kaua‘i, and two in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed out of state. There were a total of 708 cases logged over the past two weeks, 239 of them on Maui.

Second Medical Cannabis Retail Dispensary Approved for Maui Grown Therapies

Maui Grown Therapies has gained approval to open a second medical cannabis retail shop on Maui to be located in Lahaina at 1087 Limahana Place, Unit 4B. The West Maui location is scheduled to open on March 17, 2021 by appointment only for registered patients pre-ordering online.

There were a total of 693 cases logged over the past two weeks, 242 of them on Maui.
