4th Consecutive Day of No New Cases on Maui; Maui Active Cases Drop to 16

There were 90 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, all on the island of O‘ahu.  Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll remained unchanged at 132, with no new deaths reported since yesterday. This is the fourth consecutive day for Maui County with no new cases, for a cumulative total of 388 cases over the course of the pandemic.

HTA: Maui Had 2,341 Visitors in August Versus 273,638 a Year Ago

In August, total visitor days fell 96.8 percent in Maui County from a year ago. There were 2,341 visitors to Maui in August versus 273,638 visitors a year ago, according to a new report released by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.

98 New COVID-19 Cases (91 O‘ahu, 7 Hawai‘i Island); 1 Death

There were 98 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today including 91 on O‘ahu and seven on Hawai‘i Island. Kaua‘i and Maui Counties reported no new cases today. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 132 with one new death on O‘ahu confirmed by the state Department of Health.  

Blue Water Task Force Reports High Bacteria Levels at Ho‘okipa, Waiehu, Waihe‘e and Wailuku

Waters at Wailuku River, Waiehu Stream, the west end of Hoʻokipa Beach Park, and Waiʻehu Beach Park had high levels of enterococcus bacteria, according to samples taken on Sept. 24, as part of a citizen scientist program conducted by the Surfrider Foundation. 

Unemployed Ritz-Carlton Chefs Cook Up Weekly Full-Course Meal for Homeless

Executive sous chef Meredith Manee and sous chef April Matsumoto’s used to cook for guests at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua. Now they and others unemployed due to COVID-19 use their culinary skills to cook a weekly full-course meal for the homeless as part of Maui Rescue Mission’s outreach at Lahaina Baptist Church.

127 New COVID-19 Cases (124 O‘ahu, 2 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Kaua‘i); 4 Deaths

Due to updated data provided by the state Department of Health, Maui’s active case count dropped from 101 yesterday to 24 today.  In Honolulu, the active case count dropped from 6064 yesterday to 1601 today.  Statewide the number of active cases dropped from 6,267 yesterday to 1,761 today.

Frida’s Beach House to Reopen on Thursday, October 1

After almost six months of closure, Frida’s Beach House announced that the Mexican restaurant will reopen on Thursday, Oct. 1. The Lahaina restaurant will be open on an adjusted schedule, tentatively opening for four days a week from Thursday through Sunday, from 2 to 8 p.m.

Hawai‘i State Hospital Reports Four Positive COVID-19 Cases

The Hawai‘i State Hospital in Kane‘ohe reports that one patient and three staff members within the hospital’s admissions unit have tested positive for COVID-19.

There were 112 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today including 97 on O‘ahu, 14 on Hawai‘i Island and one on Kaua‘i. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 127 with three new deaths on O‘ahu confirmed by the state Department of Health.

United Airlines Becomes First US Carrier to Make COVID-19 Tests Available to Customers 

Starting on October 15, customers traveling on United from San Francisco International Airport to Hawaiʻi will have the option to take a rapid test at the airport or a self-collected, mail-in test ahead of their trip.
