‘Uncle Bully’s Surf Skool’ documentary screens at Kāʻanapali Beach Resort on Nov. 20
Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter will host a free screening of Inflatable Film’s award-winning, 40-minute documentary, “Uncle Bully’s Surf Skool” on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The documentary follows local Maui surf instructor Robert “Bully” Kotter and his mentorship of Lahaina’s under-served youth during the pandemic.

Television and FOX Entertainment, hired over 2,100 local cast and crew to be part of the first season. Collectively, the hires earned more than $31.75 million in wages.

Legacy Records, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, released Willie Nelson’s anticipated new studio album, “Last Leaf on the Tree,” on Friday. His 76th solo studio album and 153rd album overall, “Last Leaf on the Tree” was produced by his son Micah and finds Nelson covering an eclectic collection of songs by rock legends, idiosyncratic singer songwriters, alt-rock heroes, and indie folk artists, as well as a new recording of Willie’s 1967 song, “The Ghost,” and a new composition by Willie and Micah Nelson together.

Roots Reborn celebrates Día de los Muertos, Nov. 2 in Wailuku
Roots Reborn, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting Maui’s migrant and immigrant community, announced its 2nd annual Díaia de los Muertos celebration. In preparation for this special event, Roots Reborn collaborated with Coca Farms, an immigrant owned and operated farm, to plant, grow and harvest over 2,000 cempazúchil (marigold) flowers, which are believed to guide spirits back to their loved ones for the night. This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the JW Cameron Center in Wailuku.
Maui Public Art Corps begins mural at Lahaina Health Clinic
A mural surrounding the temporary Kaiser Permanente Lahaina Clinic will be painted beginning this week, with a blessing and public unveiling scheduled for the end of November 2024. The project is part of the Maui Public Art Corps’ Hui Mo‘olelo: Lahaina program, which cultivates stories celebrating Lahaina history, culture and sense of place and engages community members to co-design art that is directly rooted in these stories.
