Study: Hawai‘i on Target to Beat 2020 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Goal

Projections in the report indicate Hawai‘i is on target to meet the state’s goal established by the legislature in 2007 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to be equal to or below 1990 levels.

Chick-fil-A is coming to Hawaiʻi with a potential site at the Puʻunēnē Shopping Center in Kahului on Maui. The restaurant filed for a building permit at the site on Jan. 10, 2020, according to records with the County of Maui Department of Public Works. According to the application, the initial value placed on the project is $2.95 million.

Maui Fire Department Promotes Michael Werner to Assistant Chief

The Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety announced the promotion of Michael Werner to the rank of Assistant Chief.  A badge pinning ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Kahului Fire Station.  Werner is a veteran firefighter, most recently serving as Battalion Chief.  Prior to that was promoted to Captain in 2011.

NTSB Preliminary Report Released into Kaua‘i Tour Helicopter Crash

A preliminary accident report released by the National Transportation Safety Board was released today, detailing initial findings involving a fatal tour helicopter crash on Kauaʻi that claimed the lives of seven on board last month. A witness nearby heard what he described as “a hovering helicopter followed by a high-pitched whine,” according to the NTSB preliminary report.
