Police arrested a 40-year-old man from the Kīhei area on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and second degree robbery. The man was released pending further investigation.

Crews rescued the two mariners, successfully righted and dewatered the boat, and towed it back to Māʻalaea Harbor on Maui.

Starting today, Friday, Jan. 31, and continuing through Sunday, the Maui Police Department Traffic Division, will be conducting sobriety check points and saturation patrols at various locations to address impaired driving over the Super Bowl weekend.
