The Maui County Office on Aging held a “Baby Shower” themed staff meeting on Monday, April 4, to benefit local nonprofit Mālama Family Recovery Center.

Measures that advance include bills dealing with heat abatement for schools, homelessness and affordable housing, body-worn cameras for police, medical marijuana dispensary inspections and an interisland ferry study.

The Maui teen was referred to the wish-granting organization in 2015 and was scheduled to go on a trip with his family to Disney World this summer, until a harrowing phone call on Thursday put those plans on halt—and another plan into action.

During the months of April thru June 2016 a portion of all sales at all Maui ‘Ohana Fuels locations will be donated to Habitat Maui, with funding to support the construction and renovation of affordable housing for residents on Lānaʻi and Maui.

They are walking the halls of the Senate in opposition to House Bill 2501, and are seeking the restoration of long-diverted stream flows in the area.

“By moving beyond sugar to more sustainable uses, we estimate that this land can easily support more than double the 675 employees HC&S is planning to lay off, while generating at least triple the benefit for our local economy,” said Albert Perez, Executive Director of Maui Tomorrow.

Kamalani, a new residential community in north Kīhei, will begin accepting sales applications for its first neighborhood on Sunday, April 17, 2016.

The Maui observance from April 10-15, 2016, coincides with the National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, which honors dispatchers as being the “first and most critical contact” citizens have when reporting an emergency.
