Native Hawaiian ʻAha Candidates Registration Deadline, Sept. 15

Three Hikers Airlifted, Stranded by Flood Waters at “Bamboo Forest”

Three people were airlifted to safety after becoming stranded by flood waters at the area often referred to as the “Bamboo Forest Trail” in the Kailua area of East Maui.

Forecasters say the system could bring wet and humid weather to the state. Damaging winds, authorities say, are not expected, but the public is still encouraged to monitor additional updates.

UPDATE: Crew Aboard Overdue Sailboat Located, to Reach Maui Tonight

The crew reports that they were delayed due to a damaged sail, and heavier seas than anticipated. The crew advised the Coast Guard that they are not in distress, and should reach Maui by evening.

All Maui Forest Areas Closed as Ignacio Nears

All Maui Forest Reserves, Game Management Areas, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Natural Area Reserves are being closed for public safety due to threats of heavy rain and flash flooding, associated with the continued approach of Hurricane Ignacio. The closures take effect at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015.

California man airlifted, Injured in 15-ft Fall at ʻĪao

A 29-year-old California man was airlifted from ʻĪao Valley State Park in Wailuku after suffering injuries in a 15-foot fall from an embankment while hiking near the stream this morning, fire officials said.
