Maui police identified the 20 individuals arrested (13 males and 7 women) and charged for blocking a convoy of heavy equipment and telescope parts from being delivered to Haleakala for the ongoing construction of the Daniel K Inouye Solar Telescope.
Kahoʻolawe Permitted Trolling Schedule for August 2015
The Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission has announced the trolling schedule for permitted vessels only for August 2015. The schedule includes permitted trolling from Aug. 1-2 and 15-16, between 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has ruled that a Maui chiropractor defrauded the County of Maui dozens of times, in what may be one of the greatest number of fraud counts found against a health care provider in county history, according to county officials.
Protestors Carried Away in Stand Against Development Atop Haleakalā
At 12:46 a.m., on Friday, July 31, two semi truck loads of material were escorted through the crowd of remaining demonstrators near the Central Maui Baseyard off of the Mokulele Highway. Arrests continued into the night with at least 20 people removed and handcuffed during the incident.

Maui fire crews responded to three separate brush fires in West Maui within the span of an hour on Thursday, July 30, 2015, fire officials said.
Hirono: “While Imperfect, Highway Bill Will Increase Funding For Hawaiʻi”
Under the transportation bill, Hawaiʻi’s highway funding increases from a current level of $163 million to $171 million in the first year of the bill, a nearly 5% increase, and up to $197 million in fiscal year 2021, a 20% increase from current funding levels. According to Hirono, the bill in its current form does not provide funding for the full six years.
Parking Fees at Māʻalaea Small Boat Harbor to Start Aug. 3
Metered parking begins at the Māʻalaea Small Boat Harbor on Maui on Monday, August 3, 2015. Under the new structure, vendor Diamond Parking will install parking meters, collect fees ($0.50 per hour, $12.00 per 24 hour period) for all parking stalls in the harbor and pay for necessary infrastructure upgrades related to vehicle parking.
Mirror for World’s Largest Solar Telescope Accepted on Maui, Demonstration Planned
The Northrop Grumman Corporation today announced that the large mirror crafted for the Daniel K Inouye Solar Telescope atop Haleakalā has been formally accepted for use on Maui. The announcement comes as demonstrators plan to block a convoy from delivering telescope parts and equipment to the summit tonight.

Ancient Hawaiian Festival Depicted on UH Maui College Mural
Ancient Hawaiian athletes go head-to-head in challenging games and sports as flocks of observers commemorate the bounty of the land and its resources depicting pre-Western contact Hawaiʻi. This vivid array of colors and images is the subject of the new mural covering the front wall of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Kaʻaʻike building, set to be completed in September. The collaborative project is headed by UH Maui College student Samuel “Kammy” Kaiwi with the help of fellow student artists and painters.

A coalition of advocates for the environment, labor, health and native Hawaiians are gathered on Kāʻanapali Beach near the Westin today to speak out against negotiations involving the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As part of the demonstration, the group will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for beach conch sell blowing this evening, in the hopes of bringing attention to the TPP negotiations that are taking place in Kāʻanapli on Maui this week.
Matson to Pay $15.4 Million in Molasses Spill Settlement
The State of Hawaiʻi has reached a $15.4 million settlement with Matson Navigation Company over the September 2013 molasses spill that dumped some 233,000 gallons into Honolulu Harbor, killing fish and damaging coral at the site.
