PHOTOS: Strong Winds Down Tree on Puunene Ave.
A large tree fell in Kahului Saturday afternoon, blocking both lanes of Puunene Avenue. The incident was reported at 2 p.m. on Puunene Avenue between Wakea Avenue and West Kauai Street. Maui police closed the road while crews worked to remove the tree. The following series of photos was captured by our Maui Now readers.

Maui Flood Warnings, Watches and Advisories 3/9/12
A Flash Flood Warning has been extended for Maui until 12:15 p.m. At 9 a.m., forecasters from the National Weather Service reported that radar showed rainfall had ended over East Maui, but runoff levels remain high.
UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory CANCELLED for Central and South Maui
Affected areas include Kahului, Wailuku, Paia, Spreckelsville, Waihee, Waikapu, Puunene, Kihei, Wailea, Makena, and Maalaea.

House lawmakers today set aside $12 million in funds as they prepare to deal with damages caused by several days of heavy rains, flooding and sewage spills on the island of Kaua’i. Emergency crews were called to assist a Molokai couple early this morning when they awoke to find their home flooded with water almost to their knees.
Kauai’s Kapaa Temporary Bypass to Reopen on Monday
Heavy rains and floods undermined a 36-inch drainage culvert under the road, resulting in its closure on Monday. The HDOT will reopen the south leg of of the bypass on Monday, March 12, weather-permitting.

Radar images at 12:06 p.m. showed rainfall rates of three-and-a-half to four inches per hour, according to the NWS. The area of heavy rain continues to move west through the West Maui Mountain chain.
