Theda “Teddi” Waller has joined the Maui Economic Opportunity Board of Directors, representing the resident sector.

Maui Economic Opportunity’s 60th-year Board of Directors, led again by Carol Reimann, were installed last month with Mayor Richard Bissen, Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke and state Sen. Lynn DeCoite joining the candle-themed ceremony.

Elizabeth Whitehead and Estrelita Bradford, who both celebrated their 80th birthdays this year, were recognized at the Lahaina Honolua Senior Club’s Older American Luncheon on Monday, May 13, at Maui Economic Opportunity in Wailuku.

The Maui Economic Opportunity’s Board of Directors appointed officers for the 2023-24 fiscal year, with Judge Rhonda Loo symbolically handing out keys to signify each member’s responsibility to the organization.

Kupuna members of the Planning and Coordinating Council of Maui County gathered in-person and via Zoom for a meeting led by President Alreen Gerbig, followed by a holiday celebration that included a painting project, 1950s- and 1960s-era trivia questions, prizes and lunch.

The Maui Nonprofit Directors Association will be installing its Board of Directors for 2022 and recognizing honorees and winners of the organization’s Community Business, Humanitarian and Outstanding Nonprofit Executive Director awards virtually beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.

West side senior leader Arleen Gerbig and Maui County Council Member Yuki Lei Sugimura were honored as Kupuna Advocates of the Year at the virtual 49th Kupuna Aloha Celebration, organized by Maui Economic Opportunity and viewed by about 200 people live on July 30.

Nonprofit, Maui Economic Opportunity, honored community volunteers and named a benefactor of the year during an annual recognition celebration held on Friday, Feb. 12.

Nominees include: Carolee “Aunty Doll” Aricayos; Louise Corpuz; Arleen Gerbig; George Kahamoku, Jr.; Kimokeo Kapahulehua; Maggie Masicampo; Takeo Miyaguchi; Alice “Ali” Thompson; and Dorothy Tolliver.
