Michael Stubbs, Head of School for Kīhei Charter School, a tuition free public school, has announced a second application period for the school term that will run from Aug. 3, 2026, to May 27, 2027. Aug. 4, the first day of the 2025-2026 school year, also marked the start of the 25th year of education at Kīhei Charter School on Maui.

Hawaiʻi Technology Academy is accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year at its two Maui campuses: its K-8 campus in Lahaina and K-12 campus in Kīhei. The tuition-free public charter school offers a blended learning model that combines on-campus and virtual instruction with hands-on learning experiences.

The state’s largest public charter school system, Hawai‘i Technology Academy, is bringing a different way of learning to students at its two Maui campuses. 

Children must be 4-years-old by Aug. 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013 with family income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines for Hawai‘i. Enrollment is expected to be limited to 20 students at each of the schools.

Maui County had a total of 21,119 students, with Maui Waena Intermediate posting the fourth highest enrollment for middle schools in the state at 1,112 students enrolled in the 6th to 8th grade.
