Van destroyed in fire along Honoapiʻilani Highway
A van was destroyed by fire during an incident reported Tuesday morning along the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Olowalu. The incident was reported at 6:38 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2026 in the area known as “Cut Mountain.”
HDOT starting preliminary environmental studies for Lahaina Bypass Phase 1C
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is starting preliminary environmental studies for a northern portion of the Lahaina Bypass. The proposed Lahaina Bypass Phase 1C will extend the existing Lahaina Bypass northward, spanning 4.5 miles between Keawe Street and Puʻukoliʻi Road. The bypass currently runs from the south, from an area called “Cut Mountain,” to Keawe Street.

The temporary traffic signal near Cut Mountain will allow vehicles hauling fire debris to cross the Lahaina Bypass. The crossing will only be for debris removal vehicles and is not open to the public. The signal will be manually controlled during work hours.
