At its meeting in Los Angeles this month, the Democratic National Committee unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Students for Fair Admissions lawsuit against Kamehameha Schools and reaffirming the political status and inherent sovereignty of the Native Hawaiian people.

The Democratic Party of Hawai‘i congratulated State Party Chair Derek Turbin on his recent election to a national role within the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi hosts a Unity Breakfast event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi on Beretania St. in Honolulu. The Unity Breakfast is a longstanding tradition where Democratic candidates come together in a show of strength and unity on the morning after the Primary Election.

The delegates elected Derek Turbin as the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi’s 2024-2026 Chair, succeeding State Representative Adrian Tam who has served as Interim Party Chair since December 2023.

Over 400 delegates are expected to attend in person or virtually during the weekend proceedings. Interim Party Chair, Representative Adrian Tam, will oversee the meeting which is expected to include consideration and debate of topics ranging from the tragic fires on Maui, to housing affordability, access to health care, climate change, and many other issues. 

On March 16 and March 23, 2024, the Party-run Presidential Primary (PPP) Committee of the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i met at the Party HQ, located in Honolulu, to recount the votes cast at the caucus style 2024 PPP held at 57 locations statewide on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

President Joe Biden and four other candidates will be on the March 6 Democratic Party presidential primary election ballot, the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi announced.

The three individuals whose names were sent to the governor for consideration are: Timothy Scott Lara (left), Local entrepreneur, and community leader; Leslee D. Matthews (middle), Social worker and Local Attorney; and Tyson K. Miyake (right), former Chief of Staff to Mayor Victorino.

The American Rescue Plan signed by President Joe Biden expanded two tax relief programs for this tax season: the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The $1.2 trillion bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act, which was passed by both branches of Congress and is on President Joe Bidenʻs to be signed into law, would bring hundreds of millions to Hawaiʻi for rebuilding roads and bridges, building EV charging network, expanding broadband Internet, addressing climate change, ensuring clean drinking water and more.

The Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi’s State Central Committee, the governing body of the organization, recently passed Resolution 2021-03 (see below) by a unanimous vote, which “encourages all members of the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi and all members of the public who are eligible, and who do not otherwise have a medical contraindication or hold an objection based on bona fide religious tenets and practices, to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to keep themselves, their family members, and others in the community safe from significant COVID-19 illness.”

The Biden-Harris Administration is taking critical steps to advance the use of cleaner and more sustainable fuels in American aviation by coordinating leadership and innovation across the federal government, aircraft manufacturers, airlines, fuel producers, airports and non-governmental organizations.

The administration’s request includes $6,125,000 to protect 3,019 acres at Haleakalā National Park on Maui and $150,000 to protect an additional three acres at the Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park on the west side of Hawaiʻi Island.
