Logan will use that authorization to initiate the second year of Operation Hoʻopauahi (to extinguish fire) to keep air crews ready to provide aerial firefighting capabilities to augment county- and state-level first responders.

Throughout the entirety of the response, HING personnel assisted a total of 138 individuals and three dogs. Air crews conducted search and rescue operations that aided 47 people and two dogs, while ground crews assisted 91 people and one dog. To mitigate flood impacts and assist residents in recovery, service members filled 4,420 sandbags and provided crucial debris removal assistance to 164 homes across the impacted areas.

The Hawai‘i National Guard continues its support with Soldiers and Airmen on Oʻahu and in Maui County due to the latest kona low storm damage. On Molokaʻi, Mayor Richard Bissen evaluated the damage from the air, along with Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency Administrator James Barros, on Tuesday.

The Hawai‘i National Guard has activated about 200 Soldiers and Airmen to support all counties during the current kona low storm. On Maui, the Guard assisted with medical transport from a Kula medical center after it sustained water damage.   

Gov. Josh Green, M.D., Commander in Chief of the Hawai‘i National Guard, today signed an emergency proclamation that authorizes the Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Stephen F. Logan, to activate the National Guard. Logan will use the authorization to commence Operation Hoʻopauahi (to extinguish fire) to keep an aircrew ready to provide aerial firefighting capabilities to augment county and state level first responder elements.

US Rep. Ed Case of Hawai‘i outlined key defense priorities for Hawai‘i and the broader Indo-Pacific region in testimony submitted to the House Armed Services Committee as it drafts the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.

A multi-agency, full-scale training exercise will be held this Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 2025, starting at 6 a.m. in Kīhei, according to the County’s Maui Emergency Management Agency.

Approximately 70 keiki, teens, and families were partnered at the Kahului Target store with members of the Hawaii National Guard, US Coast Guard, Maui Fire Department, US Army, Maui County, Kaiser Permanente, Maui Health and AMR paramedics. Gov. Josh Green, M.D., today announced the appointment of Brig. Gen. Phillip L. Mallory as the next Deputy Adjutant General for the state of Hawaiʻi, Department of Defense. He will succeed Brig. Gen. Stephen Logan on Oct. 1, 2024. Mallory currently is the commander of the 154th Wing, Hawaiʻi Air National Guard which operates out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. 

The 93rd Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, a specialized unit of the Hawaiʻi National Guard, will be coordinating hazmat and active-shooter drills, in coordination with Department of Education and county first responders, this week.
