Maui youth seek climate justice in ‘Wednesday Walk for Our World’ event and presentations before the County Council

The Maui Mayor’s Office of Innovation & Sustainability is partnering with ʻĪao Intermediate School to continue climate justice education and youth participation in public policy.  More than 150 students will march to Kalana O Maui this morning to share their research in the Maui County Council Chambers regarding sustainability, resilience and human rights.

Maui police are investigating an incident involving a threat against ʻĪao Intermediate School by a student in the form of written graffiti in a bathroom.  Word of the incident also prompted a separate report in which a student reportedly brought a firearm on school grounds late last year.

Trash Truck Hydraulic Leak Culprit in Oil Spill at ʻĪao School

A broken hydraulic fluid hose on an Aloha Waste trash truck created a puddle of fluid that was initially measured at 20 feet by 15 feet, but spread to an area 10 feet wide by 120 feet long, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
