Update/Restored: Hawaiian Electric report 600 customers without power in Kīhei

Power has been restored to all remaining customers in Kīhei as of 2:50 p.m. There was an outage earlier that knocked out power to an estimated 600 customers.

An outage in Kīhei, Makawao and Nāpili was due to a load shed of various circuits after two generators tripped offline at the Māʻalaea Power Plant. A subsequent unrelated outage knocked more customers offline in Lahaina, Olowalu and Launiupoko.

Update/restored: 3,000 customers without power in Kīhei on Maui

Hawaiian Electric on Maui is reporting that an estimated 3,000 customers are without power in the Kīhei area of South Maui. Crews have been dispatched to respond. The outage was reported at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Kīhei power outage knocks out electricity to 3,400 customers

There are an estimated 3,449 people without power in North Kīhei, according to an outage map posted by Hawaiian Electric. The power outage was first reported at around 7:17 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022.

Vehicle Accident Knocks Out Power to 3,000 on Maui

At approximately 12:01 p.m. today, June 9, about 3,000 customers in the Kihei area lost power when a vehicle struck electrical equipment on Ohukai Road.

Cause of Wailea Outage Attributed to Contamination

“Something came in contact with the line which caused the short resulting in the outage. It is unclear as to what may have contacted the line,” said MECO spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson.

MECO Identifies Cause of South Maui Power Outage

“We know that this situation was an inconvenience for our customers in South Maui and we sincerely apologize,” said MECO.

UPDATE: Power Restored to 13,000 in South Maui

MECO officials say an estimated 13,000 customers in Kihei and Wailea lost electrical power just before 2:40 this afternoon.
