At approximately 3:53 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, a 50-year-old Kahului man drove himself to the Kīhei Medic Quarters located off South Kīhei Road and reported that he had been shot. 

A 21-year-old Kahului man died of gunshot wounds he reportedly sustained in an altercation reported early Sunday morning in North Kīhei. Medic personnel reported the victim was left at the Medic 3 station on South Kīhei Road by a group of unknown males. A preliminary investigation reveals a group of unknown individuals were congregated north of the Medic 3 location at Uwapo Road when a physical altercation escalated, leading to two gunshots being discharged.

South Kīhei Road is closed from Uwapo Road to Leilani Road. The area north of Uwapo to Kīhei is now open. The area south of Uwapo, remains closed. Police closed the area due to an investigation into a possible shooting. The initial closure went into effect at 4:40 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023.

The victim of a Maui Veterans Highway shooting Wednesday was not targeted, and police alluded to hunting and poaching in the area during a news conference today at the Wailuku station. Still, officials asked for the public’s assistance with any information on the shooting that happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday near Mile Marker 5 on Maui Veterans Highway.

Maui police tell Maui Now that a male driver on Maui Veterans Highway sustained an apparent gunshot injury.  The investigation is still ongoing.

Marshall M.K. Langford had “high levels of methamphetamine and amphetamine in his body at the time of his death,” says toxicology report.

Maui police say the two weapons recovered from the car driven by a slain theft suspect included a sawed-off shotgun and an airsoft pellet gun.

The recovery of a weapon remains under investigation. Acting Capt. Peter Delima, said police are still executing a warrant to get into the vehicle used in the incident.
