The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host its first quarterly “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025 featuring Dr. John Burns of the Multiscale Environmental Graphical Analysis Lab at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the December edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Caesar Hjertén of Aqualink and Liz Yannell of Hui O Ka Wai Ola on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the November edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Guest speakers from Maui Gold Pineapple and SoilThrive Hawaiʻi LLC will share insights into the Reef-Friendly Landscaping process and early observations from Maui Gold’s first test plot.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the October edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Maria Harvey, on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the September edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Courtney Klepac, Ph.D. on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Klepac will present her work with Super Reefs to identify and protect heat-resistant reefs.

Hui O Ka Wai Ola will share findings from a biannual report that outlines ocean water quality conditions along a 40-mile stretch of Maui’s leeward coast. The organization will also share notable trends and patterns indicated by monitoring coastal water quality in key areas around the island, giving focus to new data from the areas of Lahaina, North Kīhei and Lāna’i.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the July edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Nadège Aoki, on Wednesday, July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Sphere Theater at the Maui Ocean Center.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the June edition of its free-to-attend “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Evelyn Tickle, CEO and Founder of GRoW Oyster Reefs on Wednesday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the April edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Mark Hixon, professor of marine biology at the School of Life Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, on Wednesday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Preliminary data on coastal water quality monitoring in West Maui was presented Wednesday at a public speaker series featuring Andrea Kealoha, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Oceanography at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the February edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Susan Frett of Pacific Whale Foundation, on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” will feature Hanalei Hoʻopai-Sylva and Madeleine Sherman of Coral Resilience Lab, discussing their community-focused initiative to restore Hawaiian reefs using locally adapted, thermally tolerant corals.

A free Zoom webinar will focus on findings of the Hui water quality monitoring program, how the past year’s massive storms and brown water events affected water quality, and a new pesticide sampling project.

The evolving relationship between man and shark is the focus of a new animated short film, Manō, which will be presented and discussed during Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s next Know Your Ocean Speaker Series webinar.

The Dec. 7 presentation is part of the Maui Nui Marine Resource Councilʻs monthly “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series.”

With no boats around at one of the most popular snorkeling sites in Hawaiʻi, Molokini thrived during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s what a small team of researchers discovered during a year-long study that started in April of 2020. Their findings will be presented during a free webinar set for 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. 

A special webinar takes place on Monday as part of the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s Know Your Ocean Speaker Series. Topics include seabirds in Maui County, and an upcoming bill to better protect them.

Underwater photographer and former National Geographic assignment photographer David Fleetham, says that for him, great white sharks spark fascination and sent him on a journey around the world to photograph them and dispel the fear that comes with sharks.
