Impaired driving enforcement campaign launched ahead of Fourth of July weekend

The Maui Police Department launches its Fourth of July Weekend – Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign on Friday, July 1. Enforcement will continue through the holiday weekend, with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols planned at various locations.

Calling the announcement an error, Maui Police Department said this afternoon that the “Tints and Tires” campaign will not launch because the effort did not get Chief John Pelletier’s approval.

Maui Police Launch Distracted Driving Enforcement

Maui Police launch C2D, a distracted driving enforcement campaign. In 2016, 3,450 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers.

Maui Police Campaign Nets 3,779 Citations, 769 for Distracted Driving

During the one month of enforcement, Officers issued a total of 3,779 citations. Of those, 769 citations were for Mobile Electronic Device Violations (Distracted Driving), 23 were issued to School or Construction Zones. Other citations included are, Speeding 341, Seatbelt 180 and other violations totaling to 2,466.
