County of Maui Real Property Assessment Division reminds property owners that the deadline to apply for the long-term rental exemption and classification is Dec. 31, 2023. 

“These bills are part of the council’s ongoing reform efforts to promote equity in the county’s real property tax system and help local residents thrive even as everyday living is becoming more and more expensive.”

Proposed Real Property Tax Rates for the County of Maui will be discussed during a public hearing this Friday, May 13, at 11 a.m.

Maui real property taxes are due twice a year – August 20th and February 20th – and they are calculated based on the assessment of the property and how the property is used.

2021 real property assessment notices from the County of Maui Real Property Assessment Division will be delivered via mail to property owners on or before March 15, 2021. The deadline for filing an appeal is April, 9, 2021.

Maui County Councilmember Tasha Kama hosts a community meeting on the proposed real property tax changes discussed at last week’s council meeting.

Mayor Arakawa explains why all real property tax records are being digitized and old records are being thrown out. He also addresses irrigation timing issues at Wahikuli in West Maui.

White said, “I believe the county can live within the means provided by existing real property tax rates and the revenues they would achieve.”

Properties being sold have been delinquent for three or more years and have received a final notice of tax sale. As of April 30, 2012, eleven properties were scheduled to be sold at auction.

The assessment notice shows the taxable value of the land and improvements, the amount of allowed exemptions, the person who received the exemption, and the classification assigned to the property.
