UH: Promoting mental health for Hawaiʻi farmers

Due to high rates of stress, depression and suicide among this demographic, CTAHR developed Seeds of Wellbeing (SOW) with original funding support from the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture/USDA-NIFA in fall 2021 to promote better mental health for those who work in the agriculture industry.

Maui Strong Support Group to extend mental health aid for wildfires-affected individuals Jan. 31

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Hawaiʻi chapter and Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi are offering an in-person Maui Strong Support Group at the J. Walter Cameron Center, located at 95 Maharani St., Wailuku, in conference room 1, on Jan. 31 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi’s 4th Annual Maui Suicide Prevention Mini Conference, “Resilience, Renewal and Recovery,” is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Wailuku.

MPD L.I.Y.T. program to help youth with basic needs, mental illness, substance abuse

The Maui Police Department’s C.O.R.E. Unit launches its inaugural Project L.I.Y.T. (Live In Your Truth) Program. The program’s objective is to assist young individuals, ages 14 to 24, who may or may not be unsheltered, dealing with mental illness, substance abuse, and/or are at risk.

Aloha House Observes Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Services Available

The COVID-19 pandemic has had profound impacts on the mental health of people of all ages. Now more than ever it is critical to reduce the stigma around mental health struggles that may prevent individuals from seeking help. In November 2020, the Center for Disease Control reported that 44% of Americans were dealing with either depression or anxiety and recent polls also show that many are turning to substance use to cope during these stressful times.
