Update: 12 p.m., Aug. 9, 2023. Hawaiian Electric is asking for continued patience from affected West Maui and Upcountry customers without power and for affected customers to plan for extended outages as access to many impacted areas is limited due to safety and emergency response concerns.

As of 7:30 p.m., Hawaiian Electric crews are working on repairs through this evening and overnight before restoring power to customers experiencing outages in pocket areas of Hāna, Olinda, Piʻiholo, Kula, Haʻikū, Mākena, Kīhei, Kanaio and Molokaʻi. To report an outage, call 808-871-7777

Crews replaced a downed pole in the Maunaloa area and repaired power lines that came down after a large ironwood tree fell in the Kalae Highway area.

Gusty southerly winds caused outages in various parts of Molokaʻi today, including the Hoʻolehua, Kalaʻe Highway and Maunaloa areas.

A utility pole came down along Kalae Highway and caused a fault on the electrical system, triggering a loss of power generation at the Palaʻau baseyard.

Power has been restored to the remaining 700 customers on the East End of Molokaʻi and Kaluakoi affected by storm impacts from Tropical Storm Olivia. 

Maui Electric crews are continuing restoration efforts on Moloka‘i today to bring approximately 700 customers on the East End and Kaluakoi area back online.

Around 10:05 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 26, 2018), an island wide outage was reported, affecting approximately 3,229 customers on Moloka‘i.

Maui Electric Company just announced that the Kualapu‘u area of Moloka‘i is experiencing a power outage.

Electrical service has been restored to all customers on Molokaʻi after a rodent came into contact with electrical equipment along Kalae Highway.

County Communications Director Rod Antone said the accident which caused the downed power lines did not involve county staff or contractors.

A motor vehicle accident on Molokaʻi’s Kalae Highway knocked out power to parts of the island on Saturday afternoon.

Downed tree branches have been identified as the cause of a power outage that knocked out electricity to an estimated 1,460 customers on the east end of Molokaʻi on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014.

A power outage in the Kaunakakai area of Molokaʻi was caused when birds came into contact with electrical equipment, affecting an estimated 116 customers.

An estimated 1,800 electrical customers on Molokaʻi lost power on Tuesday afternoon when a tree branch fell, bringing down power line son the Kalaʻe Highway, according to Maui Electric Company.

The outage was first reported at 9:40 a.m., and power was restored to all remaining customers by 12:37 p.m., company officials said.

Officials at Maui Electric Company say an island wide power outage on Molokai was caused by a pole top fire at the Pala’au Substation.

The nearly seven hour island-wide outage started at around 11:36 last night, after a pole fire near the island’s power plant.

A large tree brought down several power poles and electrical lines in Kualapuu, Molokai on Saturday afternoon resulting in an island-wide power outage. The incident was reported at around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
