#North Firebreak Road

A fatal motorbike accident occurred on Haleakalā Highway overnight, resulting in the temporary closure of the mauka bound lanes from North Firebreak Road to Keahua Road. The closure went into effect at 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024.

The state Department of Transportation has announced a speed limit reduction for part of the Haleakalā Highway.  Speed is being reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph in the northbound direction in the vicinity of the North Firebreak Road Intersection near the Hāna Highway, between mile 0.20 and 0.70.  

In Kahului, an alternating lane closure will be in effect on the Haleakalā Highway in both directions in the vicinity of North Firebreak Road Sept. 11-15, 2017.

The fire was ruled accidental and was caused by a downed electrical power line. A quarter-acre of grass and fallow sugar cane was blackened near Haleakalā Hwy.
