The famed Peʻahi “Jaws” surf break along Maui’s north shore drew a spectacular show of talent from experienced big wave surfers over the weekend as safety crews stood by to assist. These images were captured by photographer, Patrick Wardle who shared the images with us.

Rodney Lash Nui Kilborn was a firefighter on Maui and had sponsored a number of amateur surfing events as a volunteer organizer on the Valley Isle, when he led a number of other watermen to help to start the first annual Peʻahi surfing contest in the mid-1990s. Wednesday’s extra-large swell brought epic surf conditions to Maui’s famed Pe’ahi “Jaws” surf break. Big wave surfers were captured charging the mountainous waves as safety crews stood by to assist. Photographer, Martin Caprile shared these photos with us.

Pro surfer Matahi Drollet wiped out at Jaws on Maui and broke his board, but a local found the tail piece and is returning it to him because keeping the fins of somebody else is “bad luck.”

The world’s best big wave surfers are back on call as the holding period for the World Surf League (WSL) 2021/2022 Big Wave season officially opened today.

Mayor Michael Victorino led an inspection of Haʻikū flood areas with US Representative Kaialiʻi “Kai” Kahele to understand the magnitude of the disaster, assess the damage and speak with residents affected by the flooding.

Two Maui men in their 20s who were diving with a larger group off Maui’s North Shore in the Peʻahi Farms area of Haʻikū-Paʻuwela, died today.

The World Surf League today announced the nominees for the 2020 Red Bull Big Wave Awards, honoring the best in big wave surfing from the past 12 months.  Maui’s Paige Alms, Billy Kemper, Kai Lenny and Ian Walsh have all been nominated in various categories.

Surf of 7 to 10 feet is expected along the East facing shores of Maui and Molokaʻi, resulting in a high surf advisory, in effect until 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020.

“Exalted as one of the best weeks in his life, Kemper found success at Sunset” on Monday, “and also at Maui’s Pe‘ahi after riding the wave of his life” just three days earlier.

The world’s best big wave surfers are now in transit to Pe’ahi to defy nature and challenge themselves in waves forecast to be in the 35-to-50-foot range on the face.

Volunteers gathered on Maui to take on the very first “Hard to Reach Beach Clean Up” at legendary surf spot, Peʻahi or “Jaws” along the island’s North Shore. 

Three-time Jaws Challenge winner Billy Kemper jumped from a big victory on Maui Tuesday, to another strong result at the Vans World Cup of Surfing on Wednesday.

Maui’s own Billy Kemper won the Jaws Challenge at Peʻahi, one of three stops on the World Surf League Men’s Big Wave Tour.

Today, the World Surf League Big Wave Tour has issued a Green Alert for the Jaws Challenge at Peʻahi, Hawaiʻi to run on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

The new Peʻahi Farms north shore residential development features 16 custom home sites centered around a dedicated 75-acre community farm.

Also…Ian Walsh’s incredible barrel ride at the 2018 Pe’ahi Challenge earned him the Ride of the Year award, and Tube of the Year Award for the same wave.

The majority of the nominated rides come from the infamous big wave breaks of Peʻahi “Jaws” on Maui and Nazaré in Portugal.
