14 recruits graduate with new class as Adult Correctional Officers

Fourteen recruits with the graduating class have completed basic training and will begin their careers as correctional officers in facilities across the state. 

Department of Public Safety opens statewide Sheriff recruitment

Recruitment is open on the Department of Human Resources and Development website and closes Monday, Feb. 28. PSD is seeking applicants willing to serve on every island.

COVID-19 Cluster at Public Safety Training and Staff Development Section on O‘ahu Totals 20

The state Department of Public Safety confirmed six more employees currently assigned to the Training and Staff Development section have confirmed positive COVID-19 test results. This brings the total positive cases to 20.

The Hawaiʻi State Senate confirmed on Wednesday, Feb. 24 the appointment of Max Otani as Director of the Department of Public Safety through Dec. 5, 2022.

UPDATE: First COVID-19 Positive Inmate in Hawai‘i, Four Staff at Other Facilities Test Positive

A new inmate housed at the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the first confirmed inmate case within the Hawaiʻi Department of Public Safety. In unrelated cases, one adult correctional officer at the Hālawa Correctional Facility and two ACOs at the Waiawa Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID-19.
