Maui High School’s Blue Thunder 1 robotics team finished as a tournament finalist and took home the Energy Award after competing last week in the 2024 Hawaiʻi Middle and High School VEX Robotics Regional Championships on Oahu.

VEX IQ teams from Kalama Intermediate and Maui Waena now advance to the state tournament after earning the highest scores at the Maui event held over the weened.

Eligible student robotics teams in Maui and Honolulu counties are invited to apply for The Bayer Fund’s 2021 FIRST Robotics Grant program.

When Amanda Tuttle graduates from Kīhei Charter School later this month, she’ll also receive an Associate in Science Degree in ECET (Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology) from the University of Hawai‘i Maui College.

A total of 39 Hawaiʻi VEX IQ teams from Hawaiʻi Island, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu participated in the state middle school robotics championships, which has been sponsored by Hawaiian Electric since 2013.

Along with the three regional winners, four other high school teams – ʻIolani, Molokaʻi, Maui and Maryknoll – will also head to the world championships.

Baldwin Robotics is heading to the VEX Robotics World Championships in Anaheim, California to compete against teams from nearly 20 different countries from April 19-21.
