Senators from Maui have secured various leadership and committee assignments ahead of the 33rd Legislature. Sen. Lynn DeCoite is Assistant Majority Floor Leader and chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee; Sen. Troy Hashimoto is Assistant Majority Whip and vice chair of the Housing Committee; and Sen. Angus McKelvey is chair of the Government Operations Committee.

Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi announced Senate leadership and committee chairs for the upcoming 33rd Legislative Biennium 2025 through 2026.

The Hawaiʻi State Senate today announced its 2021 leadership and committee assignments ahead of the Thirty-First Legislature that opens on Jan. 20, 2021.

Schatz and Booker, two of the youngest members of the Senate, will serve as Chief Deputy Whips, a role that gives them a greater input in shaping policy.

Senator J Kalani English was selected as Majority Leader; Sen. Gil Keith Agaran is the Judiciary and Labor Chair; and Sen. Roz Baker is the Consumer Protection and Health Chair.

Under the new structure, Maui Senator Roz Baker will serve as Chair of the Consumer Protection Committee; Senate Majority Leader J Kalani English will serve as Vice Chair of both the Hawaiian Affairs and Tourism committees; and Senator Gil Keith-Agaran will Chair the Judiciary and Labor committee.
