Along north facing shores, surf is peaking at 20 to 30 feet this morning before slowly declining late this afternoon. Along east facing shores, surf is peaking at 14 to 18 feet this morning before slowly declining late this afternoon.

High Surf Advisory for East, South Shores

“A large east swell generated by East Pacific Tropical Cyclone Barbara is spreading across the island chain this weekend. In addition, a new long period south-southwest swell is increasing surf along south facing shores,” according to the NWS forecast.

North Shore Surf Rolls in for Christmas

Surf will rise today and remain elevated at 15 to 20 feet along the north facing shores of Maui tonight and on Wednesday, according to a forecast advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

North Shore Surf Remains Elevated at 10-15 Feet

Forecasters from the National Weather Service say a large north swell, combined with locally generated wind waves, will continue to produce rough surf throughout the day.

20-25 Foot Surf Prompts Warning

Forecasters from the NWS expect surf to build to 20-25 foot range along the north facing shores this afternoon and tonight. Surf along the west facing shores is projected to be in the 15-20 foot range.

North Shore Surf on Maui, 12-16 Feet

Surf is expected to be 12 to 16 feet along the north and west facing shore of Kauai and Niihau, and the north facing shores of Maui and Oahu. West shore surf on Molokai and Oahu is expected to be in the 8 to 12 foot range.
