Mayor Arakawa said that the restoration of services would be implemented immediately, and that he would be submitting a new budget amendment early next year, after the election had passed, to avoid any further “political agendas” and “bickering.”
“The mayor and I agree that an immediate priority is to make our parks such as Kanahā Beach Park and Kalama Park more family-friendly and a better experience for all. We will also be looking at ways that we can work together to better communicate with the public,” said Faaumu.
A 30-year-old female visitor was airlifted from the the Kailua area of East Maui on Monday, Sept. 8, after suffering injuries in a fall while hiking in the area often referred to as the “Bamboo Forest.”
Two surfboards reported missing earlier this week have since been located. Family members who reported the incident say the boards were found at a house in ʻĪao this afternoon. Full details are pending release.
