21 Recruits Join Ranks of Maui Police Department

Twenty-one individuals joined the ranks of the Maui Police Department as members of the 79th Recruit Class took their professional oaths during a graduation ceremony held Friday, May 30, at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapū.

Beach goers assisted the victim to shore and began CPR after finding the man unresponsive while snorkeling about 20 feet offshore. The incident was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, in the beach area behind the Sheraton Maui.

8 People Displaced by Wailuku Structure Fire

Eight people were displaced by a structure fire reported shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 2164 West Vineyard Street in Wailuku, fire officials said. Fire inspectors on scene have since determined that the cause of the incident was an accidental cooking fire.

A 31-year-old visitor from Granite Bay, California was transported to the hospital in stable condition after suffering a back injury in a waterslide accident at the area known as Kahoma Cabin in West Maui, fire officials said.
