HB 1671 would return 44.8% of TAT revenues to the counties, which translates to approximately $165 million in annual TAT revenue to the counties.

Challenge to Council Action Involving Honua`ula Fails in High Court

In the Kanahele v. Maui County Council case, petitioners from Maui filed an appeal based on the passage of two bills related to the proposed development of a residential community on 670 acres of land in the Honua`ula area of Wailea, formerly referred to as the Wailea 670 project.

Maui Budget Passes Unanimously on Final Reading

The Maui County Council unanimously passed the FY 2014 budget on second and final reading today. The budget was passed after an amendment was made relating to charges for current services and public transit fares for individuals with disabilities.

House Advances Bill for Purchase of Lipoa Point

The state House unanimously passed a bill out of its chamber for the purchase of land at Lipoa Point on Maui for permanent preservation. The measure now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
