The East Maui Taro Festival is set to make a celebrated return for its 29th year. The event will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hāna Ballpark

Nā Mamo O Mū‘olea announced that the Hāna Limu Festival returns to Hāna Bay Beach Park at Kapueokahi on July 15, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 12th Hāna Limu Festival returns to its traditional Hāna Bay location for the first time since 2019.

Improvements to the Hāna Boat Ramp and wharf will result in construction and closures that may impact boaters beginning the last week of June.

A 38-year-old Maui man died in an apparent drowning incident at Hāmoa Bay in Hāna, Maui. The incident was reported at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020.

Fire officials say the man, described as a 22-year-old from Minnesota, was attempting to hike from Hāna Bay around Kaʻuiki Head to Kaihalulu when the incident occurred.

Residents have complained of a foul smell from exhaust and smoky looking vapor coming from the area during renovation. The county has since filed a request for an Special Management Area permit to install a leach field at the location.

A community meeting to address planned improvements to the Hāna Bay septic system is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 12, 2015.

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10th at Helene Hall in Hāna. The gathering begins with an open house at 5 p.m., a presentation at 5:30 p.m., and a question and answer session to follow.

A ceremony marking the start of the project is scheduled for noon. That will be followed by an informational meeting from 1-2 p.m. to address community concerns.

The Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation will begin registration for the 2010 Jr. Lifeguard Program on May 1, 2010.
